14 hours of design at the Globe.

You know you’ve been at the Boston Globe too long when you’ve seen three different security guards.

Day Two (Monday) was intense and the Globe staff wasn’t even there. We reported to the Globe at 10 a.m., got a quick breakfast and tour, then straight to work. Critiques, designing nonstop, huddles and pow-wows have led to what I think is a very solid group presentation. They ordered in pizza for us for lunch, and then we took a much need break by walking to Shaw’s Grocery to pick up dinner. Tomorrow won’t be as intense, but the Globe editors will all be coming in and out to give us feedback on our projects.

Day One (Sunday) was awesome. My flights were great, I met up with Intern organizer Kristen Lenz at the airport with fellow Intern Carl Hennies in tow as well. We couldn’t check in yet at the hotel so Kristen dropped Carl and I off at Fenway Park. We ran around a bit before grabbing lunch and walking back to the hotel.

Finally checked in, my roommate Bridget O’Donnell and I unpacked until we had to meet to catch taxis to the Christian Science Monitor party. Coolest thing ever: The Mapparium. There were leftovers food stuffs so they got us to-go boxes and let us pack up anything left, even the bottled water. Back at the hotel, Kristen debriefed us on the week and we all heaved a sigh of relief finally knowing what’s going on. I managed to crawl into bed at 1 a.m. and didn’t budge an inch all night.

Eight days!

My flight leaves at 9 a.m. from Louisville’s Standiford, arriving at 12:15 p.m. at Boston’s Logan to spend a week at this hotel going to this conference. I turned in this application and will be working with Travis Larchuck, Amy Duncan, Rebecca Rolfe and Nicole Davis to turn my application and theirs into an even better group project. Hopefully at the end of the week, I’ll come home with plans for next summer, whatever and wherever they may be. Kind of scared to death, but I bought business cards. Who can’t take me seriously when I own business cards?

Oh, learning to be tech savvy.

Figuring out Wordpress is difficult! But thanks to the help of my friend and site host, it’s all worked out and I’ve officially got a nice looking blog with only a week and a half to spare until Boston. Now if only my resume was in as good of shape.

Baby’s first domain name!

I have officially registered “adriennedye.com.” Eventually (read: once I’ve got time, probably once senior year is over) that domain will be attached to a snazzier website, but for the time being HTML and CSS are doing what I need them to do. I decided to blog about Boston for my own memories, and because I’m in the Intern competition! Stoked? An understatement.
